Listeners’ Visits

Pastor Robert Borac from Roxas, Isabela and Benson Duque from Echaque, Isabela are the two winners of Pastor Lorenz’ contest for December. Each received pre-tuned radio, an Ilocano Bible and 3 music CDs of Ptr. Lorenz Salazar.

Ptr. Borac travelled for two hours to claim his prize.  He shared that he started listening to DZMR while it was still on its test broadcast.  He is an avid listener and knows all the programs by heart even the topics being discussed by the programmers.

Rudy Rufino from Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya went to the station to get a copy of the message of Ptr. Rudy Ursua on the family. His home town is in Batad but he now resides in Diadi with his wife and 4 children in their farm. He started listening last October. He mentioned that he will give the transcript to his wife who is not a Christian yet so  that she will know God’s guidelines in building the family.

We pray that as we continue to go on the air, the Lord will open more homes, hospitals, and even hardened-hearts to hear His message of love and eternal life.

This Christmas, allow us to share with you this thought from Holley Gerth:

“Jesus, He came not to a throne but to a manger. He lived not as a king but as a servant. He chose not a kingdom but a cross, He gave not just a little but everything.”

May the incredible love of Christ the Savior and the joy of His coming bless you anew this Christmas.

Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year!

Grateful for your partnership,

Em and Miriam

Radio Distribution

A week after our hospital ministry, off  we went to Cauayan City Jail for the pre-tuned radio distribution and gift giving.  This time we brought with us the high school students of Merry Sunshine Montessori School headed by Lily Garcia, one of our programmers and directress of the school.  They came with 190 boxes containing canned goods, slippers, t-shirts and many others. Another donor gave soap and shampoo for the detainees.  50 radios were distributed to the 170 inmates. We were prepared to give radios to each one but the warden only allowed 50 for security purpose.

Pastor Jun Duran from Cauayan City started this jail ministry six months ago and it was through him that we were allowed to do the visitation.  He shared the Christmas message during our visit with the invitation to receive Christ.  Please pray that as they listen to DZMR, they will truly understand the Gospel and be set free spiritually from the bondage of sin.

Hospital Visitation

To spread  Christmas cheer and to promote DZMR, we partnered with Cornerstone Fellowship and Sefton Bible Training Center in singing and visiting the patients at Southern Isabela General Hospital in Santiago City.

Cornerstone  Church has been doing the hospital visitation every Wednesday morning  by praying for the patients.  But since it was Christmas, the Christmas carols  made it special. In every room we visited, we  shared the Gospel and left tracts for them to read.

Many appreciated the visit specially the Christmas carols.  One lady even cried when we sang, others would sit up and listen.  We introduced them to our prayer program and invited them to text us so we can pray for them on regular basis.

Pray that those we met will tune in and become regular listeners.

Christmas Fellowship

Boodle fight, that’s how we celebrated our Christmas fellowship with our programmers last Dec. 6. Eating with our hands pork barbeque ribs, roasted fish complete with  boiled eggplants and okra and of course no celerabtion is complete without pinakbet, the favorite of all, Ilocano vegetable dish.  We played some games, sang songs and they shared what impact DZMR has on their lives.

Pastor Domie Mariano shared that he is careful now to walk his talk, pointing out that he needs to show in his life what he says on the air.  Pastor Lorenz, host of the early morning prayer program says that before he would take his siesta in the afternoon.  Now, he spends his siesta time  writing his scripts.  Ptr. Rudy Ursua on the other hand says that doing scripts 5 times a week has helped him prepare his messages for Sunday worship.  Virgie, host of the children’s program says that before she would spend 1 week preparing Sunday School lessons, now that she’s script writing for the programs, she is able to do that in 2-3 hours.

Thank God for how He is working in the lives of DZMR programmers.

Programming Seminar/Workshop

The second batch of volunteer programmers composed of pastors, teachers and businessmen coming from Santiago City, Cauayan City and Ifugao participated in coming up with creative ideas, conducting interviews and producing a 30 minute program that incorporated all their learnings during the training held Oct. 25-27.

Pastor Jaime Cachola from Santiago City shared: “I came not knowing a single thing about radio.  I have learned so much.”  Thanks to trainors Efren Pallorina and Maloi Salumbides from FEBC Manila Office.

Out of the 12 participants, 6 have been chosen to come on board and be programmers for DZMR beginning March 2012.  With the additional programmers, we are looking at adding two hours to our morning broadcast.  Please pray for these new programmers as they prepare themselves for this new ministry opportunity.

Praise and Pray

  • Praise God for John Paul Tangonan, our new technician for passing the government exam making him full pledged 1st class operator.
  • Praise God for quick answer to have 2 digital recorders. Donation for the purchase was given 2 days after our prayer letter was out.

Pedring and Quiel

Pedring and Quiel, these are the names of the two typhoons that hit us in a week’s time, September 27-30, with winds  of 140-150 kilometers per hour toppling down trees, electrical posts, ripping roofs and  making rice fields like irrigation dams.

But the Lord be praised for He protected us with His mighty hand.  The bunk house and the kubo (nipa hut) which is our guard house were damaged, the sliding  door of the support house fell down twice and the screens were torn but our able staff repaired
them in no time.

At the height of the strong winds, we kept praying that the antenna will withstand the strong winds. The Lord heard our prayers.  Thanks to our text brigades: friends and FEBC staff in Manila.

We did not miss a single minute of the broadcast as we were kept on air by  our generator though on low power (only at 4 kilowatts).  But as of this writing, power has to be restored yet.   Many parts of Santiago City and other towns of Isabela are still without electricity.
Program response dropped considerably as there’s no power to charge the cell phones of listeners.

We still have enough reason to be thankful as we didn’t experience flooding like in Central Luzon.  Also, water supply was not interrupted.  People managed to be on their feet right away. What’s left of the palays in the field are now being harvested.

DZMR Programmers

DZMR Programmers

These are the happy the faces of our programmers taken during our general meeting last August 8.  5 are from Santiago City, 1 from Ifugao and 6 from Cagayan. Not in the photo is
our lady programmer from Cauayan City.

They are the bearer of Good News to our listeners.  Do pray for them on regular basis: for their safety as they travel to and from the station to record their programs, for  programming creativity and time management – for them to balance their priorities in church, family and DZMR.
